Ready or not, autumn is here! The leaves are beginning to change, the kids are back in school and soon the weather will be cooling down. Friday, September 22nd marked the official first day of fall and along with that comes fall festivals, pumpkin patches and the start of the holiday season!  Check out this quick guide to all of the upcoming fall activities that you can do with you and your family in the Hampton Roads area!

Starting Friday, September 29th, be sure to come out to the Virginia Beach Boardwalk for the Neptune Festival.  Watch the amazing North American Sand Sculpture Competition, volleyball competition, an Arts & Craft show, Neptune’s Grand Parade, as well as music, food and fireworks! Fun for the whole family! The Neptune Festival begins Friday, September 29th from 12pm until 11pm, and continues Saturday, September 30th from 10am until 11pm, as well as on Sunday, October 1, from 10am and ends at 6pm.

Saturday, September 30th is the Suffolk Peanut Festival Parade!  The Peanut Festival itself doesn’t kick off until October 5th but you can get in the Peanut-Spirit on Saturday, September 30th with the Peanut Festival Parade! The parade stages in the Lakeside neighborhood and proceeds down Washington Street, turning left onto North Main Street and concludes at Finney Avenue.  Admission is Free, and the event starts at 10am. If you are unable to make this event, The Suffolk Peanut Festival- Including the Virginia Festival of Flight is from October 5-8, and cost $10 a person.  There is an early bird admission discount if you go online at &7.75 (plus fee) until October 1st.  Thursday, October 5th is Carload night, where goers can purchase an All-You-Can-Ride wristband for up to 8 people for $40.  A 4 day admission pass is also available for $30.   

Beginning September 30th on Saturdays and Sundays, the ever-popular Hunt Club Farm in Virginia Beach begins their annual Harvest Fair, continuing through October from 10am -6pm.  Hunt Club Farm has always a hot spot to bring your family to.  Not only do they have the largest Pumpkin Patch in Virginia Beach, they also have hayrides, a petting farm, pony rides, carnival rides, and inflatable amusement for the kids. Visit their website for more information and directions for a fun day out with your family.  Hunt Club Farm also is a popular destination for their Halloween Haunted Hayride.  If you have older kids, or like to be thrilled, this is a place for you to go and have a scream.

Looking to spice your pallet up? Come on out on Saturday, October 7th for the 5-Alarm Festival and Chili Cook Off in Hampton.  Bring the whole family for this annual event of food, fun activities, and information about fire safety. Enter your own famous chili recipe or bring your friend’s and sample some of the best chili in the area. Cooks compete for prizes in a variety of categories. To apply, fill out the application attached below or contact the Fire Marshal’s Office at 757-727-1210. Application deadline is Sept. 8 Admission is free, and its just $5 for chili tasting.

Fleet Fest in Norfolk is on October 21st at the Naval Station Pier 14 from 10am until 4pm.  In looking toward the future, Naval Station Norfolk will offer a modern-day Fleet Fest to begin the start of the next 100 years. An event for the entire family, Fleet Fest will offer ship tours, static aircraft displays, children’s entertainment area, military demonstration, chili cook-off, car show, beer garden, food trucks and concessions. This event offers a day full of festivities to show appreciation to our service members and their families. Admission is Free!

Virginia Beach will be hosting their Harvest Festival on Saturday, October 21st from 10am until 4pm.  Come on out and celebrate fall with activities for all ages. Learn about crops that were typically raised on a plantation, enjoy cooking demonstrations, try a drop spindle, and immerse yourself in daily life from long ago. Create a corn husk doll, make a hand-dipped candle, use a cider press to make apple cider, and paint pumpkins. Admission is just $5 a person and includes one pumpkin to paint (ages two and younger are free).

Do you have fur-babies?? Then the Barktoberfest in Newport News is perfect for you! On Saturday, October 21st from 12-5pm, bring the family by! This family-friendly event will include rescues, vendors, exhibitors, and community partners, and of course, our annual dog walk! And, new this year, will be some fun fall activities, live music and a craft-brew beer garden! And as always, all proceeds will benefit the animals and programs of the Peninsula SPCA.

Chesapeake’s Annual Bark in the Park Fun Fest is on Saturday, October 21st & 22nd at the Chesapeake City Park.  This two-day event kicks off on Saturday, October 21st at 3pm with a 5K Doggy Dash and a one mile Puppy Trot. There is a Family Fun Fest on Sunday, October 22nd, from 12pm until 5pm at Chesapeake City Park. This is a rain or shine event. The festivities include the popular Radar Run, canine demonstrations, and contests, animal rescue/welfare exhibitors, a variety of vendors, food trucks, live entertainment, our popular raffle and loads of fun for both the two- and four-legged members of the family. Admission is FREE, and your fur-babies will LOVE it!

Just in time for Halloween, the Magically Enchanted Halloween Town in Newport News is on October 28thJoin us October 28th for a Halloween festival you’ll never forget! Corn hole Tournament with cash prize, Horseshoe Tournament with cash prize, Costume Contest with cash prize, Pumpkin Contest with cash prize, Dance Contest with cash prize, Free Petting Zoo, Free Hayrides, Pumpkin Patch, TONS of free games for kids with prizes, Live Music, Beer Tent, A Farmers Market, Vendors and more. Admission is Free and so is parking!

Last, but not least, come on out to Triple R Ranch Fall Festival in Chesapeake on October 31st from 6-9pm.  There will be a lot of activities that you can do with your entire family, including trick or treating, hayrides, and so much more!
