Free Market Health Insurance

It was March 23, 2010. President Barack Obama signed into law the United States federal statute enacted by the 11th US Congress. Known as the Patient Protection and Affordable Health Care Act, it represented the largest regulatory overhaul and coverage expansion to the US healthcare system since 1965.

By 2016, the number of uninsured Americans dropped by roughly half. Individual markets were revamped, and insurers could no longer deny or increase premiums due to preexisting conditions or demographics. Notably, the Act caused political polarization as the opposition questioned whether the government should intervene with the free market of health insurance.

Regardless of your stance, one thing is clear, health insurance options have changed radically since 2010. Navigating the landscape and finding the best option—as individuals, employees, and employers–can be a challenge.
